What is an ICO?
An initial coin offering or initial currency offering (ICO) is a type of early funding using cryptocurrency.
Usually, ICO’s accept BTC and ETH in return for the projects token once the ICO ends.
It is a form of crowdfunding, however, there are also private ICO’s which do not seek public investment.
What is an STO?
A security token offering or a tokenised IPO is a type of early investment in tokenised digital securities.
STO’s generate security tokens (similar to shares) which are real-time digital assets that operate within legal boundaries.
This is usually a safer investment method than ICO’s due to much heavier regulations and penalties should the company be found wanting.
What is an IEO?
An initial exchange offering is a variation on an ICO, they are operated directly by cryptocurrency exchanges.
IEO’s are often referred to as the middle ground between an ICO and STO.
Binance exchange started the EIO movement where companies can list their early investment fundraising directly to the exchange users.
What is an IDO?
There are now many successful IDO platforms for you to chose from. An investor buys the native token of the IDO platform and gains entry into IDO’s. Some platforms are lottery allocations, while others allow an investor to buy a guaranteed allocation for every IDO.
